Yahoo Announces Data Encryption Rollout

Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO has today announced encryption of all the information moving between Yahoo data centres. This follows on from whistleblower Edward Snowden's revelations of the NSA and GCHQ tapping into the fibre cables transporting Google and Yahoo's user data.

Also, responding to NSA data snooping and collaboration stories, Ms Mayer maintains on her Tumblr account:"Yahoo has never given access to our data centers to the NSA or to any other government agency. Ever."

Yahoo recently acquired Tumblr for a mind blowing $990 million with Melissa promising " not to screw it up." Under her new leadership Yahoo has spent over a $1bilion dollars on purchasing companies this year already.

Before Myer joined yahoo, the company were in legal battle with the NSA. At the TechCrunch 2013 conference Meyer confied   I'm proud to be part of an organization that from the very beginning in 2007, with the NSA and FISA and PRISM, has been skeptical and has scrutinized those requests. In 2007 Yahoo filed a lawsuit against the new Patriot Act, parts of PRISM and FISA, we were the key plaintiff. A lot of people have wondered about that case and who it was. It was us ... we lost. The thing is, we lost and if you don't comply it's treason."

Well I imagine she would have been cheered up by the NSA.'s opening of a new Tumblr blog promising transparency!
